THE SPLENDOR OF THE LILY

Header graphic for The Splendor of the Lily - Higher Ground

Nature in an open book to teach
Divine truths through familiar objects;
It speaks eloquently of the Creator
So that He'll be known by His subjects.

The beauty and splendor of Nature
Testify of the infinite skill and wisdom
Of the Master Artist who sits and paints
His portrait in the heirs of His Kingdom.

To know the beauty that Heaven values
Just go to the lake and look at the lily
Arrayed with modesty, appropriateness,
Grace, pleasantness, and simplicity.

Our God will be as the dew unto Israel,
He shall grow as the lily spotless and pure;
This wonderful promise is for us today,
It would happen for His promises are sure.

~ ~ ~

The beauty and splendor of the lily
Are lessons given by our loving Creator
That He cares and sustains this flower;
Are we not to Him so much better?

~ ~ ~

The Bible says to "grow as the lily"
We ask: How can this be done?
Let's go to a lily pond or a lake nearby,
And let this flower teach us a lesson.

~ ~ ~

The secret of a holy and pure life
We can learn from the water lily;
Though surrounded by filth and scum,
It grows in beauty, fragrance, and purity.

~ ~ ~

Debris, sludge, rubbish and weeds
Are part of its natural environment
But the stems of the lily strikes
Deep below the filth for nourishment.

~ ~ ~

Refusing to partake of the filth
It feeds on pure food not on the slime;
That's why we see on the bosom of the lake
The gorgeous lily pure and sublime.

~ ~ ~

This earth is filled with sin and vice
Could we live here and not be tainted?
Well, look at the gorgeous water lily
Growing in filth yet not polluted.

~ ~ ~

The Patriarch Enoch was a great man
He lived in a morally degenerate age;
Yet, like the water lily in a filthy pond,
He didn't allow sin to hold him in bondage.

~ ~ ~

Surrounded with influences so depraved,
To behold the pure he trained his mind;
His conversation was on heavenly things,
Thus he wore the impress of the Divine.

~ ~ ~

We, too, can be like the Patriarch Enoch;
Though we live in a world so corrupted,
We can remain pure, holy and undefiled,
And when Jesus comes we'll be translated.

~ ~ ~

The beauty and splendor of the lily
Are the lesson so needful for the soul
That though we live in an age so polluted
We can stay pure and true in this world.
