Many people have asked me to write a book about what my husband John and I
did to 'cure' him of a malignant tumor in his left kidney.
I mentioned some of the things we did in
John's web page. In the last couple of years surfing the net, I have discovered some
excellent alternative medicine sites which I will share with you at the end of this page.
I wish that I had seen these sites when John and I were going through the program. We
would have been greatly blessed and encouraged. These sites support, teach, and practice the things
that John and I followed in the two year that we ate nothing but raw fruits, vegetables,
nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains.
Sometimes the question is raised: Why do people get sick? Perhaps the main reason why people get sick can be gleaned from the following quotation: "Nature bears abuse as long as she can without resisting; then she arouses and makes a mighty effort to rid herself of the encumbrances and evil treatment she has suffered. Then come headache, chills, fevers, nervousness, paralysis, and other evils too numerous to mention. A wrong course of eating or drinking destroys health and with it the sweetness of life." --Counsels on Diet and Foods, Page 125.
I believe that the strict diet of living foods versus cooked or 'dead' foods boosts the immune system to do its job of keeping the body healthy and free of debilitating diseases. If you do not have any maladies, it behooves you to maintain the health of your immune system by eating as much raw fruits and vegetables as possible.
How important is diet anyway? More important than many people realize. Did you know that our diet affects our spirituality? If we violate the laws of health, we violate the laws of God for He wrote the health laws with His fingers upon every nerve, every cell, every sinew, every muscle in our bodies, and we suffer the consequences ultimately for broken laws. To break the laws of God, whether they are physical or spiritual, is sin for sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4).
"Let none who profess godliness regard with indifference the health of the body, and flatter themselves that intemperance is no sin, and will not affect their spirituality. A close sympathy exists between the physical and the moral nature. The standard of virtue is elevated or degraded by the physical habits. Excessive eating of the best of food will produce a morbid condition of the moral feelings...Any habit which does not promote healthful action in the human system, degrades the higher and nobler faculties. Wrong habits of eating and drinking lead to errors in thought and action." --Counsels on Diet and Foods, Page 62
Notice the last statement above. Wrong habits of eating and drinking lead to errors in thought and action. We know that the moral character is made up by our thoughts, which produce actions, and repeated actions form habits, and habits form character. The bottom line of the Christian experience is to form righteous, Christ-like character.
It is the will of God that we prosper and be in good health (3 John 1:2). We are to eat for strength and not for drunkenness (Eccl. 10:17). Everything that we do, whether we eat or drink we are to do it to the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31). In other words, every facet of our lives has to be in conformity to the will of God.
"The religion of the Bible is not detrimental to the health of the body or of the mind. The influence of the Spirit of God is the very best medicine that can be received by a sick man or woman." --Medical Ministry, Page 12.
"And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians." 2 Chronicles 16:12.
Does this mean that we are to not go to doctors at all? Not at all. God can give wisdom to doctors to help in many areas. If I get involved in a car wreck, and I am badly mangled up, I would hope to be taken to the hospital, and the doctors use their skills to patch me up as best they could. Internal organs may need to be surgically repaired, broken bones need to be set properly to heal properly, etc. Yes, physicians have their places, but it is God who created us and gave our bodies the ability to heal. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Ps 139:14.
The days of miracles have not ended. God does intervene at times and bring healing, but for the most part, He has set in place physical laws that we are to be in harmony with. To experience optimum health, God desires us to live temperately and wisely.
"To ward off disease or recover health, men as a rule find it easier to depend on the healers than to attempt the more difficult task of living wisely." --Rene Dubos.
