Wearied from waiting, the virgins slept,
But were awakened by the midnight cry;
Five were wise, they brought extra oil,
But five were foolish, their lamps went dry.
Out to the markets the foolish ones went,
The much needed oil they eagerly sought;
Their search everywhere was of no avail,
For this precious oil could not be bought.
Hoping to gain admittance to the feast,
They went back and on the door they knocked;
One look at them and the Bridegroom said:
Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
When it's my time to come before Him,
What would He say? What would I hear?
Would He say: Depart from me I know you not,
Or would He say: Come, my child, have no fear?
Oh, that I may know Him and be known of Him,
This is my heart's desire, my life's quest;
When I find Him, He'd be my Song, my Inspiration,
My Joy, my Hope, my Rock, my Haven of Rest.
I didn't find Him, but, praise God, He found me!
He's my Creator, my precious Lord and Saviour;
He's my Crown of glory, my Diadem of beauty
Who holds out to me His Sceptor of loving favour.
He's my Tudor, He teaches me to love as He loved,
To be gentle, tender, compassionate and kind;
To always put others before me is Christ-like,
It's reflecting in me the thoughts of His mind.
The preciousness and wideness of His mercy
No earthly mortal could fathom or grasp;
It's wider than the oceans, rivers, and seas
And more precious than gold, rubies, and topaz.
His justice is tempered by mercy and love,
He's ever seeking the wanderer to find;
He's always ready to forgive and restore
For His heart of love is wonderfully kind.
He's the Lamb of God slain before time began
To save Adam's lost race from hell's flame;
He's the Sun of Righteousness with healing rays
To those who love, obey, and fear His Name.
He's Sharon's Red Rose, the Lily of the Valley,
The Lion of Judah, the Light of the World,
The Alpha and Omega, the Bright and Morning Star,
And He's the Fairest of Ten Thousand to my soul.
To green pastures and springs of living water
My Good Shepherd leads me gently along;
His goodness abounds, my soul is fed and satisfied,
That's why I'll never get tired singing this song:
More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love Who died for me.

I had a dream once where I was at a religious gathering in a large stadium somewhere. There were thousands of people in attendance and were singing the hymn More About Jesus. The swell of the anthem was glorious, almost like angels' chorus coming from God's Throne. Enraptured, I joined in the singing as I walked down the aisle to find a place to sit. I vowed in my heart that I would know more and more about Jesus. It was a beautiful dream. --Lydia

But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord....That I may know Him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Phil 3:7-11.
A life in Christ is a life of restfulness. There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding, peaceful trust. Your hope is not in yourself; it is in Christ. Your weakness is united to His strength, your ignorance to His wisdom, your frailty to His enduring might. So you are not to look to yourself, not to let the mind dwell upon self, but look to Christ.
Let the mind dwell upon His love, upon the beauty, the perfection of His character. Christ in His self-denial, Christ in His humiliation, Christ in His purity and holiness, Christ in His matchless love, --this is the subject for the soul's contemplation. It is by loving Him, copying Him, depending wholly upon Him, that you are to be transformed into His likeness. --Steps to Christ, page 70, 71.
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. --John 17:3.
The knowledge of God as revealed in Christ is the knowledge that all who are saved must have. This is the knowledge that works transformation of character. Received into the life, it will re-create the soul in the image of Christ. This is the knowledge that God invites His children to receive, beside which all else is vanity and nothingness. --The Acts of the Apostles, Page 475.
As the years of eternity roll, more glorious revelations of God and of Christ will unfold. As knowledge is progressive, so will love, reverence, and happiness increase. The more men learn of God, the greater will be their admiration of His character.
As Jesus opens before them the riches of redemption...the hearts of the ransomed thrill with more fervent devotion, and with more rapturous joy they sweep the harps of gold; and ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands of voices unite to swell the mighty chorus of praise--more, more about Jesus!
