A NEW HEART
Severe pain in the chest
In the middle of the night
Had me rushed to the hospital
To determine my plight.
The ER nurses were busy
Dispensing patients' medication
And working untiringly with
Determination and dedication.
Except for a heart murmur
In my medical history,
All tests came back negative;
Was told: No need to worry.
The hospital stay was a God-sent;
Being a patient, I've learned much--
I'd see that my caregiving skills
Include that special human touch.
Oh, to be extra sensitive
To the seemingly little things
That are often overlooked
In any caregiving settings--
The gentle caring touch,
Soothing words to comfort,
Allay fears, hasten healing,
And give moral support.
This physical organ of ours
Is extremely important
Without it no one could live
To experience life abundant.
Spiritually speaking
The heart of the whole man
Is the complex mind that came
From the Creator's hand.
The heart or the mind
Is extremely vital
Care must be given it
For it is the soul's citadel.
The frontal lobe is where
The ability to reason
comes and where we learn
Lasting spiritual lessons.
Wrong physical habits
Affect brain functions,
Weaken mental powers and
Produce sour dispositions.
The soul's citadel needs
To be guarded zealously
Or else havoc is wreaked
By the adversary.
When we cease to pray
We let our guards down;
Temptations are yielded,
The harvest is sown.
God's unchanging truths
Are stored in the mind;
Satan must not enter
To taint and undermine.
Med'cation for a sick heart
Is Jesus' precious blood;
We must plunge deep beneath
The healing crimson flood.
We must cling to His promise
That a new heart He will give;
We must give Him the glory
For as long as we shall live.
