I was very tired when I came to the Cradle Roll room that night to prepare for the morning class. I was going to see if I could find the rainbow felt set that I needed for one part of the program that we would present in the morning. We were teaching the children about God's beautiful rainbow of promise. "I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth." Gen 9:13. The felt rainbow set includes a beautiful large rainbow to be placed on the flannel board. Then, there are little rainbows with pipe cleaner attachments that the children hold up as they sing: I know, I know. God made the beautiful rainbow Because He loves me so. We stored all the felt material, extra stuffed animals and other items in the closet. The items were all placed in boxes and neatly stacked from floor to ceiling. The boxes were labeled all right, but the problem was that the labels on the boxes outside did not always match the contents inside. If you were looking for something, you had to look in almost all the boxes to find what you were looking for. I was in no mood to look in every box in the closet that night. I rebuked myself for wanting to get things organized but never getting around to doing it. My mind was weary and my heart was heavy as I opened and surveyed the closet. The enormity of this task loomed before me like a great avalanche waiting to crush me. I didn't know where to begin. As always when in a predicament like this, I turned to the Lord for help. I said: "Please, Lord, help me find the rainbow set. I'm tired. I don't want to be here all night looking for it. Please, Lord, help me, help me, help me..." It was a short prayer said in desperation. Instinctively, I reached out for a box, any box, and opened it. To my amazement and joy, the rainbow set was in that box. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for helping me find the felt rainbow set. Just as you have placed the bow of promise in the sky many, many years ago, tonight you have placed a special rainbow in my heart--a token of your love and care. Should I ever lose my way--my faith, my hope, my love, and my joy--direct me once again to your Rainbow of Promise. And someday, Lord, through your grace, I will see You and the Rainbow around your Great White Throne. |
