I saw at least three different representations-- Prevention of Child Abuse, Academic Achievement And Excellence, and last but not least, Prohibitions. While these representations are fitting and noble The Word of God does talk about a ribbon of blue-- It was given to the children of Israel in their sojourn To identify them as God's people, faithful and true. In Numbers 15:38-41, we read that a ribbon of blue Was sewn to fringes on the borders of their garments To serve as a reminder to love the Lord their God With all their hearts and to keep all His commandments. The ribbon of blue distinguished God's people From the surrounding worldly, idolatrous nations; They worshipped the one true God who set them apart To be a holy nation throughout their generations. The women were adorned modestly with shamefacedness And sobriety, easily distinguished from heathen women; The men likewise were attired appropriately following Instructions given to them from the God of Heaven. Today, the ribbon of blue, in principle, still applies, Christians and wordlings should be distinguishable; Christians are to be different in everything they do, They do not partake of things unholy and abominable. (Lev 11; Isa 66:16-17; Eze 22:26) They are clothed and adorned in modest apparel, not With broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; In the matter of hair and dress, they are to maintain A proper distinction between the sexes alway. (1 Tim 2:9; Deut 22:5) The human body is the temple of God and as such Christians are to eat for strength and not for drunkenness; In everything they do whether in eating or drinking They are to give glory to the Lord, their Righteousness. (1 Cor 3:16,17; Eccl 10:17; 1 Cor 10:31) More importantly they are identifiable because They keep all the commandments of their Heavenly Father. They follow His command to come out and be separate And He will receive them as His sons and daughters. (Rev 12:17; 22:14; 2 Cor 6:17,18) They are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, A holy nation, a people with inner strength and might; Reclaimed from bondage they show forth the praises of Him Who called them from darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9) If you are following the ways and customs of the world, Confess to God that you've not been faithful and true; Then, to remind yourself of His high claims upon you, Put on the fringes of your heart a ribbon of blue.
